So, can it be done? Is assume residency would be impossible but what if it happened later in life? Can a hand surgeon post residency continue to practice if he developes spasticity in the lower limbs or even ends up in a wheelchair?
I can't remember what type of surgeon he was, whether he was ENT, or plastics. But our med school class had someone come speak to our class who was indeed a paraplegic. He had a specialized setup that supported him in the OR in a standing position. Again, not sure if he was plastics, hand, or what. I do remember it being something involving delicate work, certainly wasn't a general surgeon.
