Dear Student Doctors, Class of 2015:
I hope everyone is getting excited to start medical school. I am certainly excited about seeing everyone in August which is just a few months away. I am sure everyone is getting anxious as to what needs to be done next. I hope to address several of the questions I have been receiving. Keep emailing your questions to me and I will start sending out group emails since most of you may have the same questions.

Important things to Know:
SharkLink ( NSU email):
Going forward, communications will be done through your NSU email address. Please make sure that you have set up your NSU email and request to be part of the DO 2015 group so that you are not missing out on important information. Keep checking the DO group as well as the Medicine Tab under Sharklink since most of the information that you need to know will be posted there in the next months. Also you need to have a valid NSU email/SharkLink Id to start the housing process and financial aid.
Go to
https://www.nova.edu/sbin/nsulookup/ac/sharklook to retrieve your Sharklink ID if you have not done so.
Once you have your SharkLink ID, to request being part of the DO 2015 group go to
www.nova.edu and use the Quick Links drop down box and select Sharklink
Enter username which is your SharkLink ID (first part of your NSU email address ) and your password.
Go to groups and request to be part of the First Year DO Class of 2015. Also on SharkLink you will be able to click on the Medicine Tab for information pertaining to the entire college of Medicine.
Background Checks:
I will be sending you an email with instructions to complete your background check. This is done online. You will be given a pin number to enter. NSU will pay for the cost of the background check. This needs to be completed before July 1, 2011.
Calendar:
Academic calendar has been updated and posted on the SharkLink medicine tab. There was an error in the date of the White Coat Ceremony which has been corrected. White coat ceremony is Sunday August 7, 2011. First day is Monday August 8, 2011
Dress code:
Dress code for the first day August 8, 2011 is business professional. The reaming week you may were your hospital blue scrubs but must adhere to the dress code. No flip-flops, sandals or open toe shoes. Please refer to the dress code policy in the
Financial Aid;

The NSU Health Professions Division evaluates completed state residency applications from residents of the State of Florida. For tuition purposes, all incoming students will be classified as out-of-state residents until their state residency application has been evaluated. Students not completing their residency application before the start of the academic year will not be eligible for in-state tuition. For initial determination of residency for tuition purposes submit the NSU HPD State Residency Application which was sent to you in your acceptance packet or by downloading the packet at
http://medicine.nova.edu/do/admissions/forms/state_residency.pdf.
Upon matriculation, you are not eligible for reclassification of state residency and for tuition purposes, will be assessed out-of-state tuition for all subsequent terms of attendance.

Immunization and Physical Forms:
Do not send or email these documents. You will need to bring these completed forms with you on your first day which is August 8, 2011. The forms will be posted soon on Sharklink DO 2015 group.
Laptops:
Any type is fine. A laptop with long battery life is helpful. Not all lecture and patient exam rooms have multiple power outlets.
Orientation:
Orientation will be done online as well as the first week of classes. Please keep checking SharkLink DO 2015 group for more information as well as your NSU email.
Room Mate requests :
You can do this through the housing department website. You also can post on the Sharklink DO 2015 group to find out if your M1 classmates looking for roommates or where they are living.

Technical Standard Form:
You must complete the technical standard form that was sent and emailed to you in your acceptance packet. You can fax the form to Att: College of Medicine Admissions at 954-262-2282.
Transcripts:
There seems to be some confusion over NSU requests for you to send your official transcripts. We do not receive the transcripts that you have sent in when you did your AACOAMS application. NSU does require you to send all official transcripts of any course work taken with degree degrees conferred. This is required before your financial aid will be released to you.
